Attribute it when the order arrives
Most sales tracking is rebuilt after the fact from reports. The better way is to record the rep, the referring office and the marketing channel the moment the order comes in. Then there’s nothing to reconstruct, and nothing to argue about at month end.
What a sales manager needs to see
| Question | Where our client got the answer before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Which reps are on pace this month? | A report pulled by hand | A live pacing view |
| Which offices are sending fewer referrals? | Weeks later, if at all | As it happens |
| What does each rep earn? | Days of month-end work | Calculated as orders ship |
| Where does an order stand? | A call to operations | The rep’s phone |
What it changed for one company
A medical supply company on Brightree had a sales VP spending five days a month on reports, while management ran about 45 days1 behind the reps. With a live sales layer beside Brightree, reporting went from more than 5 days a month to under 30 minutes2, and reps’ calls to the production team fell 70%3.
When a report is enough
With two or three reps and one referral source, a monthly report from the billing system may be all you need. Live tracking earns its keep once pace, office trends and commissions drive decisions every week.
